Cycling Science and Training Resources

    Coaching and Training

  • Carmichael Training Systems - personal coaching, training camps
  • AthletiCamps - cycling training camps in Northern California that feature physiological testing by Max Testa and Eric Heiden of the UC Davis Sports Performance Program. Using the results of the tests, coaches (Harvey Nitz, Mike Neel) help plan a program. Other topics (nutrition, etc. ) are also covered, as well as training rides in the Sierra foothills.
  • CycleFX - converts trainers and rollers into an interactive PC-based fitness system. Includes UltraCoach courses and log.

    Hypoxic Training Products

  • Colorado Altitude Training - designed in Norway hypoxic room system. Room is sealed and stabilized to about 12 percent oxygen (depending on the altitude of your house) to simulate 15,000 feet. The system consists of an oxygen concentrator and a CO2 filter.
  • MAF Group - original "Gamow Bed" design by Dr. Igor Gamow of the University of Colorado, this partical vacuume chamber used to be marketed as the CAT HATCH (Colorado Altitude Training's High Altitude Training Chamber), and after a falling-out between CAT and Dr. Gamow, being sold as the MAF (Maximum Aerobic Function) Hypobaric Chamber, from Phil Maffetone
  • Hypoxico - see below
  • Wallace Altitude Tent Systems - this hypoxic tent design by the former British Olympic track rider Shaun Wallace was combined with Hypoxico, which offers an altitude tent as well as a hypoxic room with clear walls. The system works on the same theory as CAT's room. The tent is clear and portable and drapes over bed. Hypoxico claims the tent offers either 9,000-foot or 14,500-foot altitudes. Hypoxico's Hypoxic Rooms start at 9x5x8 feet with soft clear vinyl walls and aluminum frame, and are meant for training in, rather than sleeping in.
